The pattern

A repeating pattern drawn from the weathered surfaces of Boston: torn concert posters, a defaced construction sign, and a pair of legs and shoes photographed on the street. I isolated three motifs, ripped lettering, the sign, and the pants and shoes, then layered them into a single tile in a dusty rose, mauve and black palette.

The tile repeats seamlessly, so the same artwork can run as yardage, wallpaper, a shoe upper or a skateboard deck.

Extracted motifs: pants and shoes, ripped lettering, and a defaced construction sign.
The single tile: the three motifs layered with painted stripes and scratches.
The tile in repeat, three by three.
